Too hot for cows

During a recent coastal survey around the Solway Firth in support of project SCRAPbook, one UKCAPS crew noticed a rather odd phenomenon.  Herds of cows were deserting their fields and heading to the estuary for a paddle to cool off. This was happening over a wide area as the idea spread amongst the overheated bovines. The heat was also affecting the crew as temperatures soared in the cockpit.  For once, leaning out of an open aeroplane window to photograph and record dertitus on the coast was a pleasure rather than the usual freezing experience.
