UKCAPScotland received its first direct request from SEPA to mount an observation patrol overhead a coastal area deemed vulnerable to flooding due to a combination of exceptionally high tide and on-shore winds.  The threat only lasted 2 hours on one particular day and one of our aircraft flew a standing observation patrol overhead the affected coastline during the entire period, ready to alert the authorities the instant any coastal breach occurred.  In the event, all was well and the coastal defences held up adequately.  Low resolution aerial photographs were continuously recorded by an airframe-mounted downward pointing camera during the sortie and a few individual stills are shown below.  SEPA were delighted with the rapid response by our crew and by the results.  Hopefully this sortie will only be the first of many environmental protection sorties by CAP aircraft in 2018.
